Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another service may receive it. By using Madison County Criminal History, you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location submitted through a search box is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider handles the query and supplies its response. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained so it can be answered. It is not disclosed beyond our organization unless the law requires disclosure.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, ordinary server and analytics records may capture technical details such as:

  • Page-view times and the pages visited
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • The referring site, when one is supplied
  • Internet Protocol address
  • Approximate time spent on a page

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files that help measure traffic and navigation patterns. Analytics providers may combine those observations into site-wide reports. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing errors and maintaining reliable performance
  • Routing a search to the provider that operates the tool
  • Measuring which resources visitors use
  • Operating and securing the website
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Madison County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of individual criminal records. It describes official access through the Madison County Sheriff's Office, local courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person. Virginia Code § 19.2-389 governs dissemination from CCRE, while the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, § 2.2-3700 et seq., addresses access to records held by Virginia public bodies.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by that provider's privacy policy and retention rules, which we do not control. Review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, the sheriff, state agencies, legal resources, or outside tools. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy terms apply. Advertising providers may also use their own technology to measure activity across sites.

Read the destination's policy before providing personal information.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks placing ads
  • Search providers processing a submitted query
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so a breach or unauthorized access can never be ruled out entirely.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such information is identified, it may be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Depending on residence and applicable Virginia privacy or consumer-protection law, a visitor may have rights concerning personal data. Requests may include:

  • Access to personal information held about the requester
  • Correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion where the law provides that right
  • Opting out of qualifying forms of processing
